چکیده

Results We studied 143 children (92 M/51 F) aged 2.4 15.6 years. Negative results were found in 20 (14%) with Alternaria, 24 (16.8%) with Alt 1, and 19 with both (13.3%). There was a good correlation between the two determinations (r = 0.935, p <0.001). Overall the levels were higher for Alt a 1 (18.9 ± 24.4) than for Alternaria (15.4 ± 20.1). There were 97 cases (68%) with levels of Alt a 1 > Alternaria, 42 (29%) with Alt a 1 < Alternaria, and four with the same values. There was a single patient with positive Alt a 1 (0.39) and negative Alternaria (0.3), and five patients with negative Alt a 1 and positive Alternaria, with values of 0.43, 0.56, 2.3 , 7.4 and 11.3, two of which are not considered very meaningful.

Utility of the Atopy Patch Test in the Diagnosis of Allergic Rhinitis

Introduction: The diagnostic work-up of allergic rhinitis (AR) is first and foremost based on the combination of clinical history data and results of skin prick tests (SPT). Other tests, including specific IgE measurement, nasal challenge, and, as a third option, component resolved diagnosis or basophil activation test, may be useful when the diagnosis is difficult because of polysensitization ...

Alternaria alternata allergen Alt a 1: a unique β-barrel protein dimer found exclusively in fungi.

BACKGROUND Alternaria species is one of the most common molds associated with allergic diseases, and 80% of Alternaria species-sensitive patients produce IgE antibodies to a major protein allergen, Alt a 1. The structure and function of Alt a 1 is unknown. OBJECTIVE We sought to obtain a high-resolution structure of Alt a 1 using x-ray crystallography and to investigate structural relationshi...

Specific Antibodies for the Detection of Alternaria Allergens and the Identification of Cross-Reactive Antigens in Other Fungi

BACKGROUND The mould Alternaria alternata is an important source of respiratory allergens. A. alternata extracts show great variations regarding allergenic potency. The aim of this study was to generate antibody probes specific for important Alternaria allergens and to use them to study allergen expression, depending on different culture conditions, as well as to search for cross-reactive aller...
